Hello void!
A lot has happened since I last posted (many, many months ago). One, I got engaged. Two, I received my master’s. Three, I went to an amazing writer’s workshop in Kansas. And, four, I have submitted 260+ times this year.
260? Submissions? What do you mean?
Good question.
So, you see, last year I started to get serious about short story writing. And, using this nifty thing called Submission Grinder, I decided I would try to submit 100 times before the end of the year. That means going to magazines and anthologies and telling them, “Hey! I have a story you may or may not like! Will you take it?” and hoping they say yes. Typically they don’t. And, because I’m doing the throw-any-story-that-seems-relatively-close-to-what-they-want method, I get rejected more than normal.
Last year I did 42 submissions. The year before, 9. So that being said 100 was a stretch goal, to say the least. I was determined though, and even told myself that if I completed my goal, I could go see a play downtown. Very exciting.
Either way, as you can tell probably, I more than surpassed that goal! 260+ submissions and counting! My fiance and I went to see SIX when it came to us, and it was amazing. And, I’ve gotten 4 story acceptances so far which I’m super excited to share with everyone.
So stay tuned. Fun things coming!
